MUGGINTON, a parish in the hundred of APPLETREE, county of DERBY, 7 miles (N. W.) from Derby, containing, with the township of Mercaston, and the hamlet of Ravensdale Park, 525 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Derby, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at £9. 12. S., and in the patronage of E. S. Pole, Esq. The church is dedicated to All Saints. The Rev. Samuel Pole, rector, in 1?46, and Mrs. Frances Pole, in 1751, gave land now producing about £21. 5. a year, which, with the profits of a lime-kiln, let for upwards of £100 per annum, is applied to the free education of thirty-six children.
