NEWNHAM, a parish in the hundred of .FAVERSHAM, lathe of SCRAY, county of KENT, 4 miles (S. W. by W.) from Faversham, containing 356 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £5. 12. 6., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Miss Thorncroft and Mrs. Hill. The church; dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul, is principally in the early English style of architecture. A fair is held on' the festival of St. Peter. There is a small charity school in the parish.
