NICHOLAS (ST.), a parish in the hundred of WONFORD,
county of DEVON, 5 miles (E. by S.) from Newton-
Abbots, containing 969 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of
Exeter, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £800
royal bounty, and £500 parliamentary grant, and in the
patronage of Lord Clifford. The parish is bounded
on the east by the river Teign, and lies opposite to Teignmouth,
a pleasant and much improved bathing-place.
