NORTON-by-KEMPSEY, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of OSWALDSLOW, county of WORCESTER, 3 miles (S. S. E.) from Worcester, containing 517 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £2. 12. 6., endowed with £600 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant. The church is dedicated to St. James. There are extensive quarries of limestone within the parish.
