NORWELL, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of THURGARTON, county of NOTTINGHAM, 6 miles (N. by W.) from Newark, containing, with the chapelry of Carlton upon Trent, and the township of Norwell-Woodhouse, 874 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage divided into three portions, denominated respectively Norwell-Secunda, Norwell-Tertia, and Norwell-Overhall, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of Southwell; Norwell- Secunda. is rated in the king's books at £4.12. 11., and in the patronage of the Prebendary of Norwell- Tertia; Norwell-Overhall is rated in the king's books at £4. 12. 11., endowed with £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Prebendary thereof. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence.
