NUTFIELD, a parish in the second division of the hundred of REIGATE, county of SURREY, 1 mile (W.) from Bletchingley, containing 707 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester,, rated in the king's books at £14. 14. 7., and in the patronage of the Principal and Fellows of Jesus College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to,St. Peter and St. Paul, is partly in the early, and partly in the later, .style of English architecture. Fullers' earth is found here in great quantities and of superior quality. In 1755, an earthen vessel was discovered, containing nine hundred coins of the Lower Empire.
