ORLESTONE, a parish partly in the liberty of ROMNEY-MARSH, and partly in the hundred of HAM, lathe of SHEPWAY, county of KENT, 5 miles (S. by W.) from Ashford, containing 453 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at ,-£4. 15. 9., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of J. Thornhill, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Royal Military canal passes through the parish, in which there are some chalybeate springs, but of no great efficacy.
