OVERTON (MARKET), a parish in the hundred of
ALSTOE, county of RUTLAND, 6 miles (N. by E.) from
Oakham, containing 468 inhabitants. The living-is a
rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese
of Peterborough, rated in the kingts books at
£14. 11. 3., and in the patronage of John Wingfield,
Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St.
Paul. A market, formerly held on Tuesday, has been
long disused.
