PARTNEY, a parish in the Wold division of the wapentakc of CANDLESHOE, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, If- mile (N. by E.) from Spilsby, containing 293 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £11. 10. 2., and in the patronage of Lord Gwydir. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. There is a place of worship for Baptists. So early as the seventh century, a monastery is said to have existed at Partney; and it is certain that, in the time of Henry I., there was an hospital dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene; Bede also mentions another religious establishment here, over which the abbess Edelhild presided.
