PECKHAM (EAST), a parish in the hxmdred of TWYFORD, lathe of AYLESFOR.D, county of KENT, 6 miles (N. E.byE.) fromTunbridge,containing 1724 inhabitants The living is a vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £14, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury: the impropriate rectory is rated at £23. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, has lately received an addition of one hundred and five sittings, of which eighty-five are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £40 towards defraying the expense.
