PENKHUL, a township, joint with Boothen, in the parish of STOKE-upon-TRENT, northern division of the hundred of PIKEHILL, county of STAFFORD, 1 mile (S. E. by E.) from Newcastle under Lyne, containing, with Boothen, 4915 inhabitants. It is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under 40s.
