PENNINGTON, a township in the parish of LEIGH, hundred of WEST-DERBY, county palatine of LANCASTER, 1 mile (S. by W.) from Leigh, containing 2782 inhabitants. This township includes part of the market town of Leigh. The manufacture of cotton is extensively carried on; and the neighbourhood produces coal, and lime of a very superior quality. AtPennington Hall is a small chapel for Swedenborgians.
