PETHERWIN (SOUTH), a parish in the northern division of the hundred of EAST, county of CORNWALL, 3 miles (S. W. by S.) from Launceston, containing 914 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, with the curacy of Trewin annexed, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the. Bishop of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £9. 2. 6., and in the patronage of the Chancellor and Fellows of the University of Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Paternus. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. Fairs are held on the second Tuesdays in May and October.
