PIRTON, a parish in the hundred of PIRTON,
county of OXFORD, 5 miles (S.) from Tetsworth, containing,
with the hamlets of Assendon, Clare, Golder,
and Standhill, and the liberty of Christmas-Common,
622 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's
books at £ 17. ,9. 4., and in the patronage of the Dean
and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is
dedicated to St. Mary.
