PITTON, a chapelry in the parish of ALDERBURY, and hundred
of ALDERBURY, county of WILTS, 4 miles (E. by N.)
from Salisbury, containing 308 inhabitants. This chapelry
is in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Treasurer
in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury. The chapel is
dedicated to St. Peter. Sir Stephen Fox, in 1711, gave
£188 in support of an hospital for twelve poor persons,
and for clothing and teaching twenty poor children.
