PLEMONSTALL, a parish comprising the townships
of Hoqle, Pickton, and Mickle-Trafford, in the
lower division of the hundred of BROXTON, and the
township of Bridge-Trafford, in the second division of the
hundred of EDDISBURY, county palatine of CHESTER,
4 miles (N.E.) from Chester, and containing 710 inhabitants.
The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Chester, rated in the king's books at
£6. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Earl of Bradford.
The church, dedicated to St. Peter, stands in the town
ship of Mickle-Trafford, a mile and a half north-east
of the village of that name. There is a small endowed
school, erected by subscription, more than a century
ago. At Trafford, in this parish, a garrison was placed
for the king, by Sir William Brereton, during the siege
of Chester in the parliamentary war.
