POPPLETON (UPPER), a chapelry in that part of
the parish of ST-MARY-BISHOPSHILL-JUNIOR, which
is in the ainsty of the city, and East riding of the
county of YORK, 4 miles (N. W. by W.) from York,
containing 346 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual
curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the
Dean and Chapter of York. The chapel is a small edifice.
There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
