RATCLIFFE-upon-SOAR, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of RUSHCLIFFE, county of NOTTINGHAM, 1 mile (N. by E.) from Kegworth, containing 168 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £10. 11. 3., endowed with £400 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £300 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of Earl Howe. The chureh is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The navigable river Soar runs through the parish, in which there is a mine of alabaster. Ratcliffe is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under 40a.
