RAUNDS, a parish in the hundred of HIGHAM-FERRERS, county of NORTHAMPTON, 4 miles (N. E.) from Higham-Ferrers, containing 1301 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £11. 9. 7., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, .and in the patronage of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is a large and handsome edifice, with a lofty tower and spire, considered the finest specimen of the early English style in the county; similar characteristics predominate in the rest of the building, though there are some decoratRA ed windows and others of later date: in the churchyard is the base of an ancient cross. There are places of worship for Baptists and Wesleyan Methodists.
