REED, a parish in the hundred of THINGOE, county of SUFFOLK, 6 miles (S.W.by S.) from Bury-St.Edmunds, containing 239 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £2. 18. 1., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A National school, recently established here, is supported by a bequest from Thomas Sparke, in 1721, producing an annual income of £,12, with some other smaller benefactions; about twentysix children are instructed by a schoolmistress, who also superintends a Sunday school.
