ROWLEY, a parish in the Hunsley-Beacon division of the wapentake of HARTHILL, East riding of the county of YORK, comprising the townships of Rowley and Wauldby, and containing 469 inhabitants, of which number, 425 are in the township of Rowley, 4 miles (E. N. E.) from South Cave. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of the East riding, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £20. 1. 8., and in the patronage of Col. Hildyard. The church is dedicated to St. Peter.
