SANDWITH, a township in the parish of ST-BEES,
ALLERDALE ward above Darwent, county of CUMBERLAND,
2 miles (S. by W.) from Whitehaven, containing
358 inhabitants. It extends to St. Bees' Head, where
there is a lighthouse; and upon the cliffs adjacent
grows an abundance of samphire.
