SAXELBY, a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of GOSCOTE, county of LEICESTER, 4 miles (W. N. W.) from Melton-Mowbray, containing, with the hamlet of Shoby, 134 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £9, and in the patronage of the Earl of Aylesford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The late Mr. Houghton left £ 5 per annum for the education of poor children.
