SAXLINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of HOLT, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (w. by N.) from Holt, containing 147 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with that of Sharrington annexed, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £12. 17. 3. R. P. Joddrell, Esq. was patron in 1812. The church, dedicated to St. Margaret, contains a large and costly monument in the form of an Egyptian pyramid, ornamented with numerous hieroglyphics, erected by Sir Christopher Heydon to the memory of his lady, who died in 1593. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
