SEMER, a parish in the hundred of COSFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 2 miles (S. by E.) from Bildeston, containing 262 inhabitants, exclusively of 169 inmates of the house of industry for the hundred of Cosford, which is in this parish. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £11. 7. 1., and in the patronage of the Rev. C. Cooke. The church is dedicated to All Saints. The river Brett runs through the parish. The house of industry, capable of holding five hundred persons, was erected in 1799, at the expense of the; hundred.
