SHADFORTH, a township in the parish of PITTINGTON,
southern division of EASINGTON ward, county
palatine of DURHAM, 4 miles (E. by S.) from Durham,
containing 223 inhabitants. One of the towers of an
ancient castellated mansion still remains.
