SHALFLEET, a parish in the liberty of WEST-MEDINA, Isle of Wight division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 3 miles (E. by S.) from Yarmouth, containing 878 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £18. 12. 1., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is partly Norman and partly of later date, with a low tower of considerable magnitude. The navigable river Newton bounds the parish on the north-east.
