SHARROW, a township in that part of the parish of RIPON which is in the liberty of RIPON, West riding of the county of YORK, 1 mile (B. byN.) from Ripon, containing 103 inhabitants. A chapel has been lately erected, containing five hundred and fifty sittings, of which two hundred and eighty are free, the Incorporated Society for building additional churches having granted £400 towards defraying the expense. This township is within the peculiar jurisdiction of the Archbishop of York. The Rev. Thomas Savage, in 1782, bequeathed £5 per annum for teaching eight poor children. The sum of £4. 10. a year is also paid out of the chapel rates, on account of sundry small gifts for the education of six others.
