SHEEPSHEAD, a parish in the western division of the hundred of GOSCOTE, county of LEICESTER, 4 miles (W.) from Loughborough, containing 3464 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8. 10. 10., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of C. M. Phillipps, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Botolph. There are places of worship for Baptists, the Society of Friends, and Wesleyan Methodists. Many of the inhabitants are employed in the weaving of stockings. A National school established here is supported by subscription.
