SHEEPY (MAGNA), a parish in the hundred of SPARKENHOE, county of LEICESTER, 3 miles (N. E. by N.) from Atherstone, containing, with the chapelry of Ratcliffe-Culey, 638 inhabitants. The living is a mediety of the rectory of Sheepy Magna and Parva, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £13, 4. Q., and in the patronage of the Rev. T. C. Fell. The church is dedicated to All Saints. At the Mythe, which formerly belonged to the monks of Merevale, are some slight remains of an ancient chapel. This parish is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under forty shillings.
