SHERBORNE, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of SLAUGHTER, county of GLOUCESTER, 6 miles (N. W. by W.) from Burford, containing 525 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, with that of Windrush united, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, rated in the king's books at £15. 6. 8., and in the patronage of Lord Sherborne. The church is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, James Bradley, D.D., Regius Professor of Astronomy, and Astronomer Royal, was born here, in 1692; he died in 1762, and was buried at Minchinhampton.
