SHIRBURN, a parish in the hundred of PIRTON, county of OXFORD, 4 miles (S. by B.) from Tetsworth, containing 332 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's hooks at £10. 16. 0., endowed with £800 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Earl of Macclesfield. The church is dedicated to All Saints. Shirburn castle, the seat of. the Earl of Macclesfield, is surrounded by a moat, over which is a drawbridge.
