SHOULDHAM, a parish in the hundred of CLACKCLOSE, county of NORFOLK, 6 miles (N. E.) from Downham-Market, containing 679 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, consolidated with that of St. Margaret, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, and in the patronage of Sir Thomas Hare, Bart. The church is dedicated to' All Saints; that of St. Margaret was standing in 1512, but after the dissolution was suffered to go to decay. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A Gilbertine priory, in honour of the Holy Cross and the Blessed Virgin, was founded, in the time of Richard I., by Jeffrey Fitz-Piers, Earl of Essex, which, at the dissolution, possessed a revenue of £171. 6. 8.
