SKEGBY, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of BROXTOW, county of NOTTINGHAM, 3 miles (W.) from Mansfield, containing 584 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to that of Mansfield-Woodhouse, in the archdeaconry of Nottingham, and diocese of York, endowed with £600 royal bounty, and £ 1400 parliamentary grant. The church is a small stone edifice, in a very dilapidated state, situated on an eminence some distance from the village. The manufacture of earthenware is carried on here, and on Skegby moor are extensive collieries.
