SOUTHBOROUGH, a chapelry in the parish of TONBRIDGE, and lowey of TONBRIDGE, lathe of AYLESFORD, county of KENT, 2 miles (S. by W.) from Tonbridge, with which the population is returned. It is situated about midway between Tonbridge and the Wells, and consists of a number of scattered houses. A new district church, in the early style of English architecture, has been recently erected, and endowed at an expense of £8436, defrayed by subscriptions. It contains four hundred and eighty-six sittings, two hundred and eighty-six of which are free. The property is vested in five trustees, who have also the appointment of the minister. la 1785, premises for a school were erected by the Executors of the Rev. Edward Holmes, and endowed with £1050 four per cents., for the education of fifty children; it is managed by trustees.
