SOUTHERY, a parish in the hundred of CLACKCLOSE, county of NORFOLK, 6 miles (S.) from Downham- Market, containing 663 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £7. 10., and in the patronage of Robert Martin, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a very ancient structure, with a wooden screen separating the nave and chancel: it has lately received an addition of one hundred and twenty free sittings, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £150 towards defraying the expense.
