SOW, a parish partly in the Kirby division of the hundred of KNIGHTLOW, but chiefly in the county of the city of COVENTRY, county of WARWICK, 3 miles (E.N.E.) from Coventry, containing 1212 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Coventry, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St; Mary, has lately received an addition of one hundred and eighty-one sittings, of which one hundred and sixty-six are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £100 towards defraying the expense. Considerable coal-works are in operation in this parish, and many of the inhabitants are engaged in the riband manufacture, in connexion with the trade of Coventry.
