SPELSBURY, a parish in the hundred of CHADLINGTON, county of OXFORD, 5 miles (S. E. by S.) from Chipping- Norton, containing, with the hamlets of Dean, Ditchley, Fullwell, and Taston, 610 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £9. 8. 9., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. The church, dedicated to All Saints, contains the remains of John, the celebrated Earl of Rochester. On an eminence near the village is an extensive triangular intrenchment, called Castle Ditches, enclosing a space of about twenty-four acres.
