STAINTON (MARKET), a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of GARTREE, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 7 miles (E. by N.) from Wragby, containing 131 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, endowed with £800 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant. - Dickenson, Esq. was patron in 1818. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. Here was formerly a market on Monday, and an annual fair on October 29th,- the latter was removed to Horncastle in 1768, the sum of £200 having been paid in compensation to the lord of this manor.
