STANMER, a parish in the hundred of RINGMER, rape of PEVENSEY, though locally in that of Lewes, county of SUSSEX, 4 miles (N. N, E.) from Brighton, containing 123 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, united to the vicarage of Falmer, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £16. The church is an ancient structure in the early English style.
