STANNINGFIELD, a parish in the hundred of THEDWESTRY, county of SUFFOLK, 5 miles (S. byE.) from Bury-St. Edmunds, containing 290 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £8. 0. 2. T. A. Cook, Esq. and others were patrons in 1809. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. Mrs. Inchbald, an ingenious novelist and dramatic writer, was a native of this place; she died at Kensington in 1821.
