STANSFIELD, a township in the parish of HALIFAX,
wapentake of MORLEY, West riding of the county
of YORK, 4 miles (S. W.) from Halifax, containing
7275 inhabitants. It is bounded on the south by the
river Calder. Here is the site of a manor-house, formerly
belonging to the Warrens; and the rocky height
above was once crowned with a castle.
