STANWELL, a parish in the hundred of SPELTHORNE,
county of MIDDLESEX, 2 miles (N. B. by N.)
from Staines, containing, with a portion of the town of
Colnbrook, which is in this parish, 1225 inhabitants.
The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry
of Middlesex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's
books at £9, and in the patronage of the Crown. The
church,-dedicated to St. Mary, is principally in the later
style of English architecture. There is a place of worship
for Independents.
