STAPLEFORD, a parish in the hundred of BRANCH-and-DOLE,
county of WILTS, 4 miles (N. N. W.) from
Wilton, containing 305 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of
Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £10, endowed
with £15 per annum and £200 private benefaction, and
£600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean
and Canons of Windsor. The church is dedicated to
St. Mary.
