STEPHENS (ST.), a parish in the northern division of the hundred of EAST, county of CORNWALL, of a mile (N. N. W.) from Launceston, containing, with the borough of Newport, 977 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £600 royal bounty, and £800 parliamentary grant. John Horwell, in 1717, bequeathed funded property amounting to £1705. 15. 2., to be applied for teaching poor children.
