STIDD, or STEDE, a liberty (extra-parochial), in the lower division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 7 miles (N. N. W.) from Blackburn. The population is returned with Ribchester. Here are the ruins of an ancient chapel, in the early style of English architecture, endowed with £ 25 a year, to preserve which stipend, service has occasionally been performed within its walls since the Reformation, by the vicar of Ribchester.
