STOCKLAND, a parish forming a detached portion of the hundred of WHITCHURCH-CANONICORUM, Bridport division of the county of DORSET, though locally in the county of Devon, 6 miles (N. E. by E.) from Honiton, containing 1147 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Dorset, and diocese of Bristol, rated in the king's books at £15. 13. llf., and in the patronage of the Freeholders and Inhabitants. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, is a large ancient structure. The parochial school is well supported by annual donations.
