STOKE (SOUTH), a parish partly in the wapentake of WINNIBRIGGS-and-THREO, but chiefly in the soke of GRANTHAM, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 2 miles (N. by W.) from Colsterworth, containing, with the township of North Stoke, and the hamlet of Easton, 428 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, formerly in medieties> which were united in 1776, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated jointly in the Icing's books at £18. 15., and in the patronage of the Prebendary of South Grantham in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew and St. Mary. The river Witham runs through the parish, in which are the remains of a Roman villa and baths. Here is an endowed almshouse.
