STOKE-CANNON, a parish in the hundred of
WONFORD, county of DEVON, 3 miles (N. N. E.) from
Exeter, containing 337 inhabitants. The living is a
perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage
of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter. The
church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, has a curious
ancient font. It was given, with the manor, by King
Athelstan to the Cathedral of Exeter. The rivers Exe
and Culm flow through the parish.
