STONE, a parish in the hundred of AYLESBURY, county of BUCKINGHAM, 3 miles (W. S. W.) from Aylesbury, containing 716 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £9, and in the patronage of the Rev. Sir G. Lee, Bart. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is partly in the Norman, and partly in the early English, style of architecture. There are two places of worship for Methodists. The parish is separated from Waddesdon by the river Thame. The manufacture of lace, which was formerly more considerable, is still carried on. A National school has been erected and is supported by the parishioners.
